Meet the teacher – Emma Wylam

Our amazing community of teachers are a huge part of what makes Bloom Baby Classes special. Over the last year our network has truly bloomed, and today we’re so excited to introduce you to Emma, our wonderful teacher and the owner of Bloom Baby Classes in Newcastle and Gateshead West.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

Hi, I’m Emma! I’m 34 and North East born and bred – I love this area of the country and so have never wanted to leave! I’m married, I have a little boy called Leo who is two, and we have a new addition to the family on the way. I’ve been with Bloom since 2021.

What did you do before you joined Bloom Baby Classes?

Originally, I trained to become a primary school teacher, specialising in Early Years learning, which covered reception and year one classes. Whilst I loved teaching the little ones, I had no work-life balance and once Leo was born, I wanted to focus on being around for him more. So, I decided to try something else that would still let me use my creative spark; I became a stylist for John Lewis before eventually finding that Bloom was the perfect fit for me and my family.

How did you come across Bloom Baby Classes?

When I was training to become a teacher, I had two mentors who had recently had children and they said I must try Bloom. The fact that they both messaged me separately and they both said I would love it meant I knew I had to give it a go! I attended the local Bloom to me which were the Northumberland and North Tyneside classes run by Jen – and was sold from the start!

Have your children attended Bloom Baby Classes and how old were they when they started?

Yes, Leo did, he was a lockdown baby and attended Caterpillar Classes. When the classes closed for another lockdown, I was devastated – they had made such a difference to my mental health and confidence as a new mum, as well as Leo’s development. I felt lost without my Bloom community, but when they opened again, I was the first one there to sign back up! It was this experience, discovering how transformative the classes are that made me realise I wanted to become a teacher for Bloom.

What’s the best thing about being a Bloom Baby Classes teacher?

For me, it’s seeing the bond between the parent or carer and the little one grow. I’m a first-time mum myself so I know how special and important this bond is, and seeing the parents, as well as the little ones, grow in confidence each week is also so rewarding – some of the mums go out for coffee after the sessions and I love knowing that Bloom had brought them together.

What are your hobbies and interests?

I have just bought a house so interior design! Every room needs to have personality, and I am loving making this house into our unique individual home – it’s our space so why not? We’re currently getting our garden done so I’m really enjoying teaching Leo about gardening and nature. I also love making funny videos on TikTok of all the latest trends – it’s something fun and allows me to be silly without taking what I’m doing too seriously!
